Week 14 Summary (07/14/1941 - 07/20/1941)
Week Fourteen of the 1941 BBW replay is in the books and what a week it was. A lot of doubleheaders, and a lot of games were played, and the result was some serious shuffling in the middle of the standings in both leagues, but both of the league leaders maintained a comfortable lead. Pittsburgh finally reached the 80 games played mark, while Detroit is the only team to have reached the 90 games played mark. There is another busy week coming up, so all teams but Pittsburgh (89) will have reached and passed the 90 games played mark.

Cleveland ended their week in second place, thanks to four wins over Washington on Saturday and Sunday. Boston has been bouncing between second and fourth place for the past several weeks and ended this week in third, mostly due to Chicago's collapse. With Ted Williams still out of the starting lineup, several other Red Sox hitters stepped up and provided some much-needed punch. Washington and St. Louis still have their own private duel to determine who will finish in fifth but in the meantime they both alternate between occasional bottom dwellers and occasional world beaters.

Brooklyn isn't playing bad. Rather, they just haven't been able to play consistently. Sometimes they hit, sometimes they pitch, but mostly you never know what you are going to get. They kicked off the season on major hot streak, but since then it has been tough for the diehard Dodgers fans. They are 3-10 versus St. Louis and the Cardinals have been able to hold off several Brooklyn charges so far this season, and now they have been caught from behind by New York and Cincinnati.
All in all, this was a pretty exciting week
for those watching the standings. Will someone emerge from that mess among the
second, third, and fourth-place teams in both leagues to challenge the leaders
or will they take turns knocking each other down, meaning that unless the
Yankees or the Cardinals have a serious collapse, they may have the pennant
wrapped up?
