Week 13 Summary (07/07/1941 - 07/13/1941)

1941 Detroit Tigers
Week Thirteen of the 1941 BBW replay is in the books and after a few days off for the 1941 All-Star Game in Detroit play then resumed on Thursday, so this week was essentially a short week. We did have another "Doubleheader Sunday" so even though teams are slightly behind in games played, there has been no hesitation in getting the games in. Both leagues have two teams that have played 80 or more games while Pittsburgh brings up the low end with only 72 games played. The Pirates play eight games this coming week thanks to three doubleheaders on the schedule, so all teams will be at or past the 80 games played mark by the end of this coming week.

In the AL, New York ended the week with a doubleheader sweep in Chicago, pushing the White Sox 12.0 games behind the league leaders. Third place Cleveland could not take advantage of the White Sox's misfortune because they were in the process of losing both ends of a home doubleheader to Boston. The Indians remained 1.0 games behind the White Sox, but their lead over fourth place Red Sox is now down to 1.5 games. The battle for supremacy among these three teams should be a real dogfight throughout the second half of the season.

In the NL, St. Louis ended the week with a doubleheader sweep in Philadelphia while second-place Brooklyn was getting swept at home by Chicago, leaving the Dodgers 9.5 games out of first. Third-place Cincinnati ended their week with a doubleheader sweep in Boston, pulling them to within 2.0 games of Brooklyn. Right behind Cincinnati is New York, 2.0 games behind the Reds, and still maintaining their torrid play. The Giants can't blink though, because Pittsburgh and Chicago are right on their tail, both teams trailing New York by only 2.5 games. Even though the Pirates and the Cubs are tied in the standings, Chicago does maintain a lead by a few slim percentage points.

Games played-wise we are very close to the mid-point of the season, so let's do a review of the league leaders so far:
